Learning

Online & Blended Learning Policy

ATC uses online, classroom, workplace and blended methods to help learners learn, apply and prove competence. The platform and delivery method vary by course. Highfield Vault is a third-party digital learning platform/resource environment used for the Level 3 Adult Care programme where appropriate; it is not ATC-owned and is not used for every course.

Purpose and scope

Purpose

Set safe, inclusive and academically sound expectations for online, classroom, workplace and blended learning.

Scope

Every programme using digital resources, live online teaching, remote assessment, classroom activity, workplace evidence or a combination of methods.

Responsibilities

ATC

Tell learners which approved systems and routes apply, provide clear instructions and respond to technical or access barriers.

Learners

Protect accounts and confidential information, participate respectfully, submit authentic evidence and report disruption promptly.

Platform providers

Remain responsible for their own systems, terms, privacy and accessibility information; ATC remains the training provider.

How the policy works

  1. Confirm the approved platform, communication channel, submission method, technical requirements and support route at programme start.

  2. Use Highfield Vault only where ATC directs it for the Level 3 Adult Care programme; it is a Highfield platform/resource environment, not ATC-owned.

  3. Report access, connection, upload or wellbeing problems promptly and preserve evidence of disruption where useful.

  4. ATC will consider a rescheduled session, alternative submission, extension, adjustment or special consideration where the rules permit.

Access and approved platforms

ATC will tell you which platform, email channel, video service or submission route applies to your course. You are responsible for maintaining a safe email address, compatible device and reasonable access to the internet, but ATC will discuss barriers early. Approved platforms may include ATC systems and third-party services such as Highfield Vault where the course requires it.

Tutor communication

Tutors will explain how and when to ask questions, receive feedback, attend live sessions and submit work. Learners should check the approved channels, communicate respectfully and tell ATC if a technical or personal issue affects participation. Exact response times should be confirmed in course information before publication.

Technology and privacy

Use strong passwords, keep software updated, protect confidential information and avoid recording or sharing a session without permission. Do not upload patient, service user, employer or other learner information to a platform or AI tool unless ATC has expressly approved the route. Third-party systems may process data under their own provider notices; read the Privacy Notice and applicable platform information.

Evidence submission and authenticity

Submit evidence in the file type, naming format and location ATC confirms. Keep a safe copy of work and evidence where permitted. Online submission does not change the requirements for authenticity, sufficiency, validity or referencing. Highfield Vault resources do not replace ATC assessment or Highfield awarding requirements.

Online professional discussion and remote assessment

A remote discussion or assessment must allow the assessor to identify the learner, communicate clearly, observe the required performance and protect the integrity of the assessment. ATC will explain any room, camera, audio, identity, recording, privacy or witness requirements. If remote assessment cannot validly measure competence, ATC will agree another approved method.

Technical problems

Tell ATC as soon as a connection, device, platform, upload or access problem affects learning or assessment. Take a screenshot or note the time where useful, keep the original work and follow the tutor’s contingency instruction. ATC will consider an extension, rescheduled session, alternative submission or special consideration where the problem materially affected you.

Online conduct and wellbeing

The Learner Code of Conduct, Safeguarding Policy, Prevent Policy and Health & Safety Policy apply online. Take breaks, protect your work area, use appropriate professional clothing or background where required and report harmful or inappropriate contact.
